Mechanical Design recruitment
Mechanical design inside an electronics business is a cross-discipline job. A bracket, an enclosure or a thermal decision carries electrical consequences: EMC shielding, heat dissipation for high-power components, the behaviour of whatever is sitting inside the box.
That makes the useful hire one who has worked alongside firmware and hardware teams on mechatronic and electro-mechanical products. We screen for that awareness, because it is what separates an engineer who can work in this environment from one whose background is purely mechanical.

Roles we place
What makes a strong Mechanical Design candidate
The strongest mechanical design candidates for a technology or electronics business have worked alongside hardware and firmware teams closely enough to understand how a mechanical decision, an enclosure material, a thermal path, a tolerance stack-up, affects the electronics inside it, not just the mechanism itself. Direct CAD proficiency in the tools a business actually uses (SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360) is close to table stakes; what differentiates candidates is usually DFM judgement, whether a design was actually manufacturable at the volumes intended, and evidence of having taken a design from concept through to a working, tested prototype rather than concept work alone.
Where the talent sits
Mechanical design demand tracks the wider manufacturing and product-development base across the Midlands, the South West and the South East, rather than clustering as tightly as FPGA or semiconductor design - though technology-sector mechanical roles concentrate more around the same electronics hubs as the rest of this desk. Mechanical talent is also generally more mobile and geographically flexible than the more tightly clustered R&D disciplines, since the underlying CAD and design skills transfer more readily between sectors.
Typical hiring timeline
For contract briefs we typically go from brief to contractor offered in about 5 days. That's the company-wide figure; niche or cleared roles take longer.
