Account Management recruitment
An account manager selling into engineering-led businesses needs enough technical fluency to be credible in the room with an engineering buyer, not only to run a quarterly business review.
The strongest we place have spent time closer to the engineering or product side earlier in their career. That is what lets them sit in a technical review without an engineer alongside them to translate.
What this covers
- Technical account management
- Key account management
- Client relationship management (technical products)
- Renewals & commercial account growth
- Channel / distributor account management
- Post-sales technical support & account ownership
Roles we place
What makes a strong Account Management candidate
A strong technical account manager can hold their own in a room with a client's engineering team without needing someone else to translate, understanding enough of what the client actually builds to ask a useful question, not just deliver a sales pitch. Evidence of retaining and growing existing accounts, renewal rates, expanded scope, upsell, is usually a better predictor of success than new-business figures alone, since account management is fundamentally a retention and growth discipline rather than a hunting one. We also look for candidates who've managed accounts through a difficult period, a missed delivery, a quality issue, since how someone handles that moment says more about their account management ability than how they perform when everything's going well.
Where the talent sits
Technical account management roles skew toward London and the South East where the largest technology and engineering sales operations are based, though field-based account roles are common across the same regional clusters as the Engineering & Technical team. Field-based account management roles are common outside London too, generally following wherever a business's key accounts and manufacturing clients are based.
Typical hiring timeline
Most briefs get a first candidate within days rather than weeks - see real timelines from past searches. Seniority, location and clearance status set the pace from there.
